pavilions at distillery
The project entails a series of kinetic shading pavilions that are embedded into the Distillery District. Based on the colours and experiences of the site itself, the pavilions create a collage of moving colours through a system of kinetic rails and folding hinges. The experience of the district is then extended past its boundary with the creation of an adjacent public square catering to a variety of community programs, all while engaging the transit loop on site.

This abstract representation of the site presents the project as a canvas of moving colour. The motion recorded is meant to imitate the texture of brush strokes and bring attention to colour as one of the essential elements of the site.

The pavilions are designed to change their form based on user preference, hence, the adaptability of the site can serve for multiple public uses.

This animation highlights the kinetic aspect of colour of each pavilion variation as seen in plan view. It focuses on the creases off the tensile material that makes up the shading and allows for movement in multiple directions.
pavilion variations
From the basic mechanism and general form of the pavilion, 5 different variations were derived by manipulating the radius of the arcs. As a result, each variation creates different interior experiences and is ideal for different uses.
